Selina Al-Nazzal - MSc

Selina joined Lotic Environmental in January 2024. Selina has a strong academic background in freshwater ecology, skilled in fieldwork, taxonomic identification, and data processing. Prior to joining Lotic Environmental, Selina completed her MSc at the University of Windsor where she led in designing, conducting, and reporting on research projects in freshwater ecosystems in conjunction with multiple institutions. She used stable isotopes and community assessment surveys to assess the ecosystem effects of restored Sucker (Catostomidae) migration and the impacts of different land cover types on the trophic ecology and distribution of stable isotopes of biofilm, macroinvertebrates, and fishes throughout a river network.

Alongside her graduate research, Selina has assisted in multiple fish tagging projects, water quality monitoring programs, bioassay deployment and analysis, developing strong communication, teamwork abilities, statistical analyses, laboratory techniques, and is proficient use in R programming and GIS.

Areas of Expertise

  • Leading and designing field sampling programs.
  • Fish sampling experience via electrofishing and angling.
  • Conducting and interpreting spatial and temporal data analyses.
  • Scientific communication, writing, and presenting.
