Sam has been an Environmental Technician with Lotic Environmental since August 2024. Having completed a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Management in 2022, Sam’s background includes caribou maternity penning, fish sampling and PIT-tagging, wildlife surveys, watercourse mapping and measurement, invasive species management, and other various environmental field work. Sam’s professional interests include species-at-risk recovery and population genetics.
Areas of Expertise
- Fish Sampling Techniques – supported annual Westslope Cutthroat Trout population monitoring programs through field data collection and management.
- Species-at-Risk Recovery – contributed to the conservation of endangered Southern Mountain Woodland Caribou through daily management of a maternity pen, including animal care.
- Wildlife Surveying – conducted bird and nest surveys, wildlife presence/absence sampling, wildlife camera-trapping, and aerial moose population surveys.
- Invasive Species Management - performed Invasive Alien Plant Program (IAPP) surveys, including terrestrial and aquatic plant surveys, bio-agent surveys, mechanical and chemical treatment surveys, and aquatic invasive mussel surveys from docks and boats.
