Matthew has over seven years of experience working in fisheries management in both freshwater and marine systems. Most recently he supports the management and implementation a Westslope Cutthroat Trout population monitoring project across multiple watersheds and is responsible for planning, field data collection, data management, analyses and reporting.
Previously, Matthew was a Research Assistant for the Department of Biology at Carleton University conducting systematic reviews in topics such as protected areas and conservation biology. Prior to that he completed his MSc. in the Geospatial Sciences Lab at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, USA. Personal research included the use of presence data to map and determine habitat suitability areas for ecologically and economically important juvenile sportfish. In addition to graduate studies, Matthew was a biologist for the State of Florida (USA) working in fisheries monitoring sportfish restoration at the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute. Here his work included: database management of comprehensive long-term datasets, species identification, inshore and offshore field data collection, and field equipment management (trailers, boats, tow-vehicles, underwater cameras).
