Julia Elliott is an Environmental Technician at Lotic Environmental, where she supports aquatic monitoring and restoration projects through advanced fieldwork and technical analysis. She brings a strong background in fish population assessments, drone-based remote sensing, and geospatial data processing.
At Lotic, Julia conducts quantitative backpack electrofishing surveys to assess fish community composition, relative abundance, and age class distribution. She contributes to population health monitoring through the collection of fin clips and scale samples for genetic and age analyses. Her work also includes fish salvage operations and spawning ground assessments, where she identifies redds, maps GPS locations, and classifies substrate types.
Julia is proficient in water quality and habitat monitoring using YSI ProDSS, HOBO loggers, and Survey123. Prior to joining Lotic, she worked with Selkirk Innovates, where she processed and aligned UAV LiDAR point clouds, analyzed drone imagery for fish behavior and species identification, and supported the development of advanced drone sensor training modules.
Julia holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Marine and Freshwater Biology from the University of Guelph and has completed multiple certifications, including Backpack Electrofishing Crew Supervisor and Swiftwater Rescue. Her technical skill set spans GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS), RStudio, Excel, and field-based ecological assessments. She is passionate about integrating technology into aquatic monitoring to improve conservation outcomes and data-driven decision-making.
